Septra Antibiotic – The Use and Side Effects of Septra

Septra is the brand name for a combination antibiotic prescribed to treat bacterial infections. The medication includes sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, and is used to cure urinary tract infections, ear infections, certain types of diarrhea and certain lung disorders. Several side effects are possible.

The antibiotic Septra is a combination of two individual antibiotics–trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole. In the U.S., it is available in both tablet and liquid form, and may sometimes be referred to by the brand names Bactrim and Sulfatrim. This rapidly absorbing medication is commonly used when other antibiotics have proven to be ineffective. To prevent the patient from developing resistance, Septra should only be taken when there is a strong reason to believe that the illness is caused by a bacterial infection. Read more…
